Happy weekend, friend!

Can you believe October is already here? Fall is flying by so quickly, but it’s no surprise with how busy our calendar has been lately between school, work, and now surgery prep and post-op recovery.

Even with everything going on, I managed to update a few of my favorite fall posts and rounded up some cozy finds and seasonal inspiration from friends.

So grab a warm drink, get comfy, and let’s catch up on the latest week in rewind.

Tidbits from Home

Last week, we were able to sneak in a little fun before surgery. Peyton and I went to a Husker volleyball game with a former co-worker of mine, and it was just what we needed.

It felt good to get out, laugh, and enjoy a night of great volleyball before she had to slow down for a bit.

On Tuesday, we celebrated Peyton for her volleyball senior night.

Bittersweet is the best word to describe it. It would have been emotional either way, but her injury made it even more so.

One of her best friends, who was a senior when Peyton was a freshman, came up from Kansas to surprise her, and a few of her other high school friends surprised her after the match with a sweet origami flower bouquet.

And my parents came too, which made the night extra special.

The highlight was seeing her start the match and serve the first few points. One serve turned into seven, and she even added one last ace to her high school stat sheet.

There were definitely tears and a lot of hugs from her teammates and coaches as she walked off the court one final time to a standing ovation from the crowd.

I was feeling all the feelings, a mix of pride, sadness, and probably a little bit of denial, but it’s a moment I’ll never forget.

The Road to Recovery Begins

The highs of senior night were followed by Peyton’s ACL surgery on Wednesday morning. Thankfully, there were no surprises, and in the doctor’s words, it was an “easy peasy” fix.

She’s been such a trooper and completely rocked her first PT session on Friday. The first few days were rough with pain and nausea from the meds, but she’s doing a little better every day.

She’ll keep going to PT twice a week, plus daily visits to her high school trainers for stim sessions, stretches, and exercises at home.

She’s had visits from friends and teammates, which has helped keep her spirits up. The ice machine has been our best friend, and the pantry is stocked with all her favorite snacks.

She’s also been spoiled with gifts galore, including cookies, all her favorite snacks and drinks, and flowers (both real and the LEGO kind). And she now has a whole entourage of weighted dinosaur stuffies from Target, so we’ve been joking that she’s going to need a bigger bed soon….not that she’s complaining!

We truly have the best support system and are so thankful for our wonderful family, co-workers, neighbors, and our club and high school volleyball families who have checked in, sent well wishes, cards, texts, meals, and treats. We’ve felt surrounded by so much love and kindness, and it means more to us than we can say.

It’s been a long couple of weeks, but we’re so proud of how strong she’s been through it all, and we’re hopeful she’ll be back at school early next week.

Since it’s her right knee, she won’t be able to drive for a while, so I’ll be back to playing taxi while she’s the passenger princess. I’m secretly kind of looking forward to it, though. Those little moments in the car, chatting about her day, have always been some of my favorites.

Recently on the Blog

The last two weeks I’ve spent updating posts and sharing a few of my favorites from seasons past.

This pumpkin-shaped cheese ball is almost too cute to eat. It’s perfect for a Halloween party or Thanksgiving appetizer, and it’s easier to make than you might think.

Speaking of Halloween, if you’re looking for a simple snack, this monster munch mix checks all the boxes. A little salty, a little sweet, and ready in just five minutes — it’s great for school, work, or honestly, just because. Fair warning though…it disappears fast.

And if you’re in the mood for an easy fall DIY to dress up your front porch, this corn husk wreath is one of my favorite fall crafts. It’s beautiful, budget-friendly, and so simple to make for a fraction of the price of one you’d find in the store.

Coming Soon to MWLS
