Inspiration for the Holidays: My Christmas Design Plan

The holiday season will be here soon! And in the world of blogging, that means it’s officially time to dive into all things Christmas!

I’m being honest, I usually start dreaming about Christmas in July.

I blame the Hallmark channel…and all those catchy Christmas in July radio jingles.

While it’s hard to envision snowy days and sleigh bells when it’s 100 degrees outside, as a blogger, planning ahead is the name of the game.

Do you like to plan ahead too? If you’re looking for some inspiration this holiday season, here’s a peek at my decorating plans.

Red, Gold, and Tartan Plaid Christmas Inspiration

During the chilly winter months, I’m drawn to pieces that evoke a sense of comfort and warmth. And this sentiment is especially true during the Christmas season.

I love the traditional Christmas colors of red, green, and gold. And I really love when they’re paired with plaid prints.

To me, it’s the perfect combination of festive and cozy, and one of my favorite ways to decorate our home during the holidays.

Even though I often decorate with the same colors, I’m always looking for new ways to style our home.

It’s so much fun to see how our home changes with each holiday season.

Pinterest is one of my favorite places to look for ideas. I was immediately drawn to these dreamy photos. They gave me so much inspiration as I started working on my design plan for Christmas and the holidays.

I can just imagine how cozy and festive my home will look with all the festive plaids, pops of red, and holiday greenery.

Traditional Christmas Decor

Each season I like to add a few new pieces to my collection of Christmas decor.

I recently grabbed this plaid throw blanket to bring some of that classic Christmas plaid into our home.

I was so excited when I found these gold lanterns. They are the perfect way to add some warm, golden metal tones to my Christmas decor.

And I couldn’t resist this wreath. It looks so realistic with the mix of greenery, and the big plaid Christmas bow helps to tie the look together.

How To Style A Classic Christmas Tablescape

I love styling memorable tablescapes for the holidays. It’s such a fun way to create a festive atmosphere for all our family and friends.

These are a few of my favorite red and white holiday tables I’ve styled over the years.

  • Whimsical Gingerbread Holiday Tablescape
  • Festive Holiday Brunch

I like to have a few basic staples on hand when I’m setting a Christmas table. These staples help me to style the table for the season without having to spend a lot of time or money.

This cream dishware set perfectly complements traditional holiday colors. And it looks stunning paired with rustic wooden chargers and gold flatware.

Jingle bells are an inexpensive way to add a touch of whimsy to your Christmas tablescape. They also make a great filler and can be displayed in jars or bowls throughout your home.

Red and green tartan plaid holiday ribbon and mercury glass Christmas trees make beautiful accent pieces.

If you’d like to include some in your holiday decor (and don’t want to pay retail prices), you can also make your own following my easy DIY mercury glass tutorial!

And you can finish the look with garland and red holiday berry picks.

Creating A Cozy Home For The Holidays
