Christmas Color Palette Inspiration

Most years, I tend to lean toward traditional Christmas colors in my decor.

I’ve always loved the classic combination of red and gold, and I usually find a way to mix in a little plaid too.

And while I still have a soft spot for all things red, I like to switch up my decor every once in a while.

Something about the mix of blue, green, gold, and copper feels so cozy and elegant, and I can’t stop thinking about how pretty it is for Christmas.

So, after going down a Pinterest rabbit hole, I found some beautiful ideas to help you get a jump start on your holiday decor.

Your Guide to Decorating for Christmas with Blue, Green, and Tartan Plaid

Blue and Green Living Room Christmas Decorations

It’s surprisingly easy to give your Christmas living room a fresh look. Just add some greenery, switch out your throw pillows and blankets for seasonal ones

I love these simple blue and green decorating ideas from Kelley Nan. The blue velvet and plaid throw pillows paired with some simple lighted holiday greenery add the perfect touch of holiday cheer.

The living room is also where we have one of our three Christmas trees, so I wanted to include this stunning photo from Craftberry Bush filled with blue and green Christmas ornaments.

If you’re thinking about trying this color combo on your own tree, this look is full of inspiration and such a beautiful place to start.

Blue and Green Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas

If you’re looking for simple blue and green Christmas decorating ideas that include tartan plaid accents, these stunning images immediately caught my eye.

First up, The Lily Pad Cottage kept things simple and elegant with green velvet ornaments, soft white accents, classic ribbon bows, and a few gold mercury glass ornaments mixed in. It all works together so beautifully and feels festive without being fussy.

If you want to recreate a similar look, try adding velvet ribbon to your tree and then carry that same ribbon over to your garland or wreaths to tie everything together.

I love how she did that here, adding a pretty velvet bow to the garland on her mantel alongside her cream knit stockings. It’s such a simple detail, but it adds a cozy, pulled-together feel without going over the top.

Next is a gorgeous flocked tree from my friend Kelly at Lazy Girls’ Garden Club. I love how she styled it with pinecones, silver ornaments, and the prettiest mix of shiny and matte blue ornaments.

Then she pulled it all together with blue and green velvet ribbon, and for a look that feels natural, and cozy.

You could easily create something similar with ornaments you already have. Just mix in a few blue and green pieces, add some blue ribbon, and layer in pinecones or wood beads for the same nature-inspired look.

This pretty table from Sanctuary Home Decor combines copper with plaid to create a classic green and blue Christmas tablescape.

To recreate it, try using a Christmas garland as your table runner and accent it with copper or brass candlesticks. (Hint: thrift stores, garage sales, and estate sales are great places to find them on the cheap!)

Then, grab a roll of plaid ribbon to weave through the garland for an added pop of blue and green.
