If you are joining me from Rachel over at The Ponds Farmhouse, thank you for stopping by! To all of my new friends who are visiting for the first time, welcome to MWLS. I’m so happy to have you.

I’m Jen. A wife, mom of two, and lifelong Nebraskan. Here at MWLS, I love to share made-from-scratch recipes, tips for how to decorate for the seasons, and simple do-it-yourself projects. Whether it’s a furniture flip or a room refresh, my goal is to show you that you don’t need to spend a lot of money to create a beautiful and inviting home that you love.

Festive New Year’s Eve Grazing Table

Most years, New Year’s Eve is a low-key affair at our house. We order takeout from our favorite Chinese restaurant, toast with some sparkling grape juice, and watch the ball drop in our jammies while cozied up on the couch.

I tend to be a homebody and would much rather stay in than get gussied up to go out in the cold and fight the crowds.

But if you’d like to host a get-together, or make the evening fun for your family, today I’m sharing how to style a festive New Year’s Eve grazing table.

What Is A Grazing Table?

I’ve seen photos of grazing tables all over Pinterest and Instagram, so I thought New Year’s Eve would be the perfect time to try one.

Festive New Year's Eve Grazing Table - Midwest Life and Style Blog

A grazing table is often centered around a theme and includes a large charcuterie board and a selection of meats, cheeses, bread, and crackers. They are a fun way for people to mingle while they eat.

And as a bonus, creating a grazing table cuts down on the amount of time you need to spend in the kitchen, so there’s more time to enjoy with your guests. Who wouldn’t love that?

How To Style A Grazing Table

Some grazing tables I saw filled entire kitchen islands. Are they pretty? Absolutely. But, honestly, they looked a bit intimidating to me. Not to mention that I’m not blessed with a big, beautiful kitchen island.

If you have an island. I’m jealous.

But kidding aside, like so many things that I share here on the blog, my number one tip for how to style a grazing table is this. Do what feels right to you.

If you don’t have an island start with a table or piece of furniture that you love and that is a reflection of your style.

I love to mix traditional and vintage decor, so the small buffet in our dining room was the ideal place for me to set up.

How To Choose A Theme For Your Table

Once you have decided on the location for your table, it’s time to pick a theme. When I think about styling a New Year’s Eve party, I think about colors like black and gold with winter accents.

I kept the garland on the window above the buffet and added a simple black and gold 2022 banner. I like the festive feel the banner adds to the space and it ties in perfectly with my color scheme.

Then I added some New Year’s party favors and some gold mercury glass trees to bring in a few more touches of winter.

To finish the grazing table I added a strand of twinkle lights. They’re one of my favorite ways to add some sparkle during the holidays. I even leave some of my lights up after the holidays to make the house feel warm and inviting on the gloomy winter days.

What Type Of Food To Serve

When it comes to what type of food to serve it’s important to keep in mind who your guests are and to choose food that isn’t too messy to eat.

My grazing table is filled with kid-friendly, finger foods.

Veggies, meats, cheeses, crackers, and grapes.

And my favorite Hawaiian holiday cheeseball.

You can include anything you like. The more variety the better. Mix and match your favorites like olives, nuts, pickles, hummus, or even desserts.

But don’t feel like you need to buy special foods just because. You can use what you have on hand. Remember, the idea is to make the table fun, and to make less work for you!

And don’t forget the drinks! I used a champagne bucket filled with ice and fresh greenery to chill mini bottles of prosecco.

You could also include some sparkling grape juice or apple cider for a non-alcoholic option.

As for how to serve the food? You can go as fancy or as casual as you’d like.

I chose to keep the serve ware simple yet elegant with some black and gold paper plates and plastic silverware. I like the fun polka dot design, and the black and gold colors are a perfect match with the rest of my New Year’s Eve theme.

To cut down on dishes, I also used plastic champagne flutes with a gold rim to toast with.
