Week In Rewind With Midwest Life And Style

Happy Saturday, friends! It’s time for another edition of the week in rewind. So get cozy, settle in, and let’s catch up!

Here’s a recap of everything you may have missed this week at MWLS.

Tidbits From Home

Is it springtime yet where you live? Here in Nebraska, the weather can’t make up its mind. It’s 60 and sunny one day and 30 and snowing the next! I’m holding out hope that more warm and sun-shiny days will be here soon.

I want to say thank you for all of the kind messages and well-wishes for Peyton last weekend. Her knee seems to be getting better each day. She even took first place in both the high jump and long jump at her first track meet!

Yesterday was meet number two of the season. It was a windy day, and she didn’t quite get the results she hoped for. But there’s a lot of room to grow and improve.

Downtown Kansas City Union Station
From our last trip to KC in 2019

Next weekend, the busy sports season keeps chugging on for us. We’ll be in Kanas City for a volleyball tournament. It’s not how we’d like to celebrate Easter, but at least we’ll be together as a family.

I do have a few fun things planned for the girls and have assured our littlest that the Easter bunny will know where to find us.

Are you local to KC? If you have suggestions for things to do and places to eat in the downtown area, let me know in the comments below!

My Favorite Finds

I started to freshen up our front porch for spring (more on that below) and am loving these wicker-look baskets. Now I need to get some flowers or topiaries to fill them.

Each season I like to use nontraditional items for planters. A few of my other favorites from porches past include these budget-friendly galvanized metal buckets and these vintage-look crocks.

This Week at MWLS

It was another quiet week here on the blog, but I did team up with a few friends on Thursday for a post that’s filled with creative ideas and inspiration for spring.

In case you missed it, you can read more below.

DIY Fern Wreath

Have you ever seen something online or in a store and thought, “I can make that”?

I fell in love with a fern wreath I found from a popular online retailer. But I did not love the price tag!

Stop by my latest post and learn how to make a fern wreath to spruce up your front porch for springtime.

What’s Coming Next

Next week I have two new posts planned that include a family-friendly Easter craft and 10 of my favorite holiday recipes that would be great to add to your Easter brunch menu.

If you need some last-minute ideas, stop by and join me! I look forward to sharing it all with you.

How To Decorate With Spring Plants and Flowers

This week it looks like I’m three for three on features with flowers. What can I say? It’s still so brown and drab here.

I’m ready for a bit of spring color in my life!

Where are you playing volleyball? Bartle Hall? If so there are a lot of places to eat (and drink) in the Power and Light district – walking distance from Bartle.
If you have time Saturday morning the City Market is always a fun place to go. Make sure you take the streetcar from downtown to City Market, while at City Market go to Planters, they have an amazing amount of gardening supplies.
If you love Italian food I would suggest Garozzo’s at 526 Harrison, one of my favorite restaurants or any by Union Station – Jack Stack for BBQ, Lidia’s for Italian.

Thank you so much, Debbie, for all of the suggestions! We haven’t received our schedule yet, but based on our division, we’re quite certain that we’ll be in the Convention Center/Bartle Hall. We’ve been to Power and Light several years ago, but I forgot how close it was to the Convention Center. And I love good Italian and BBQ. We’ll check them out!
