Every year for Mother’s Day, I used to buy my mom a new hanging basket or flats filled with fragrant summer annuals. We would spend the afternoon visiting and having fun filling her planters with brightly colored flowers like begonias, petunias, and one of my favorites, geraniums. Now that I am a busy momma myself, my mom and I don’t see each other as often as we both would like. Planting flowers was one of my favorite things to do together, and I really missed it. So, I started planting flowers on Mother’s Day with my two girls to carry on the tradition. Each year we go to the local greenhouse to pick out our favorite blooms. Then we spend the day planting and sprucing up all of the flower pots around the yard. It has become something that I really look forward to, and the girls do too! I am already counting down the weeks until Mother’s Day when we can get out and plant. So much so that I even got a bit of a headstart recently with my DIY spring planter.
