Let’s Luau

Summer is officially in full swing, and it’s time for a new supper club!

This month, my friends and I have gone tropical with a luau-inspired party. I had a lot of fun with this theme. I hope you enjoy it too!

For those who may be new to our parties, each month I team up with some fellow bloggers to share recipes and tips for styling a tablescape. These posts have become my favorites to share and are a favorite among our readers too!

If you love to entertain, this blog series is a must-read. And if you have missed any of our previous parties, you can see all of the past inspiration here.

Welcome To Our Guest Host

Welcome to all of my friends, both old and new. I’m so glad you stopped by. And a big thank you to those friends who are joining me from Michele’s blog, Vintage Home Designs.

Isn’t her table beautiful? I love the calming, neutral colors and how she used shells for a tropical feel.

We are once again thrilled to welcome a guest host. This month’s guest is Libbie from A Life Unfolding. Libbie owns an Airbnb and lives with her husband in scenic Michigan.

When she isn’t diving into a new DIY project or enjoying a craft cocktail, Libbie loves to help other Airbnb hosts design and stage their properties.

If you haven’t met Libbie yet, swing by her blog to say hi and see how she styled her table for the party.

After you visit Libbie, take some time to go see the rest of the tablescapes linked at the bottom of this post.

And don’t forget to see our full luau party menu, including my fresh pineapple salsa.

Simple Summer Luau Dinner Party

Summer is the perfect time to host a simple summer luau dinner party. And since Kirk and I are celebrating our anniversary this week, it is only fitting that I set a romantic and intimate table for two.

Here are a few simple and affordable ideas you can borrow to host a luau dinner party this summer.

A Tropical Table For Two

Our backyard may not compare to the beaches of Hawaii, but until we can visit the islands someday, it’s a nice quiet spot to sneak away for a meal.

Luaus are meant to be a fun and laid-back experience, so I kept the table decor and place settings simple to match the easygoing feel.

This bistro table was one of the first things we purchased after we got married, and it has served us well over the past 16 years.

Last summer I gave it a refresh with some matte black spray paint and new striped patio cushions. It’s a great little set and ideal if you’re planning a picnic for two.

If you’ve seen any of my past tablescapes, then you know I love to create layers. For my luau place setting, I started with a few simple wood chargers.

Then I placed some faux palm leaves underneath each dinner plate for a tropical feel.

I purchased the plates and bowls a few years back. I love how affordable they are, and you can’t go wrong with white dishes.

The pretty beaded detail around the rim makes them perfect for a special dinner, yet they are simple and sturdy enough for everyday use.

The woven palm hand fans add a unique touch. They give added texture to the tablescape and they are both pretty and practical.

You can use them to keep cool on a balmy evening or give them as gifts to your guests if you are hosting dinner for a crowd.

Lately, I have fallen in love with wicker accents, so these woven cup holders seemed like the perfect addition to my island-themed table.

And I couldn’t resist this bamboo flatware. I can’t wait to use it to style more tablescapes this summer.

How To Make A Pineapple Centerpiece With Flowers

I can’t take credit for this creative pineapple centerpiece, but as soon as I came across the idea, I knew I had to try it.

I may write another post about it, but for now, I’ll leave you this. Sharp knives and a pineapple corer are a must.

Once the pineapple was scooped out, creating the centerpiece was a breeze.

I placed a small glass with water inside the hollow pineapple. Then I used a mix of greenery and fresh flowers from the grocery store to create a tropical bouquet.

Overall, I love how the centerpiece turned out. The pineapple adds such a fun touch to our luau dinner. It’s like we have a small piece of the islands right in our own backyard.

To complete the table, I added some galvanized candle holders with drippy candles for mood lighting.

Perfect for a romantic dinner date…if only the wind would have cooperated! I guess there is always next time.

Thanks so much, Tammy. This theme was fun and really made me think outside the box. But I’m so happy with how all of the elements came together. It’s as close as we’ll get to a beach for a while.😉

Give details on the back lighting, please.
What size bulbs? Is it string lights?
      Beautiful table!

Hi! Thank you for the kind compliment. I love having a cozy little corner in our backyard to dine. The lights are from AQ lighting. Here is a direct link to the ones we have that are solar-powered: https://www.aqlightinggroup.com/halloween-special/solar-powered-led-string-light-dusk-to-dawn-feature-outdoor-rated-osl-s14-12-24-sol/.

They have electric versions as well.

And you can read more about the lights in this post from last summer. Thanks for commenting and happy summer!🥰
