Styling Our Porch for Christmas
28 square feet. That is the total size of our tiny little front porch. When it comes to styling this space, I’ve learned how to get a bit creative. And while it may not be big in size, it is big on holiday cheer!
Honestly, the porch is one of my favorites spaces to decorate for Christmas. I enjoy making our home feel welcoming for all of our friends and family, and the front porch is a great place to start. Even though we aren’t having many visitors these days (unless you count LOTS of delivery drivers), I still had fun styling up our porch for Christmas.

Adding Greenery
If you have followed along here at MWLS for a while, then you know how much I love to decorate our porch every season. (You can see more of our summer porch here and our fall porch here.)
One of my favorite ways to style our porch for Christmas is by adding fresh greenery. This year, I started with these DIY winter porch pots.
Can you guess how much I spent to make them? Not one single dollar. That’s right. Zero. Zilch. Nada!
I was able to reuse several things I already had on hand, including a few birch logs, curly willow branches, and some red berry stems.
The greenery was also free and salvaged from a pile of tree clippings at our neighborhood Ace Hardware store. How awesome is that?
*Tip: Check with your local greenhouse or hardware store to see if they have spare tree clippings you can have. Many stores throw them away and will let you have them for free. (Just be sure to ask an employee first before rummaging through their trash.)
Once the porch pots were finished, I draped some fresh garland using a few Command rope light clips. After the garland was hung, my husband helped me add some white lights for a little extra twinkle.
I couldn’t forget about the front door itself. The garland is the star of the show, so I chose to keep the door decor simple with a wreath, plaid bow, and my favorite gold bells from Ballard Designs.
Red and Gold Accents
A few weeks ago, I shared our Christmas design plan. With all of the craziness of this year, I really wanted to create a classic Christmas look. To me, that means a lot of red and gold decor with hints of plaid mixed in. Since these colors are so prevalent inside of our home, I wanted to add red and gold accents to the porch, as well.
To add a pop of color, I hung some red and gold ornaments on my potted cedar trees. These are the same ornaments from The Home Depot that I used to create a centerpiece for our festive Christmas brunch table. I love the subtle hint of sparkle, and because they are shatterproof, I don’t have to worry about them breaking.
The trees are a bit of an investment, but I love how realistic they look. And they are neutral enough that I can leave them out on our porch all winter long.
To finish styling our Christmas porch I added an old vintage sled. If you read my red and gold holiday home tour, then you know how much I love to use vintage decor throughout our home during the holidays.
Here is one more view of my sled. I just couldn’t resist sharing! You can even see a little peek in the background of the DIY rain barrel that we made this summer.

Gorgeous porch. Just found you on Tuesday Turn About. I do something similar on my porch each year. Love using greenery and I always put up a real Christmas Tree so the tree lot always has a ton of scraps I use to make wreaths and other holiday decor. Like you, I have a small porch, so it’s nice to see how other people decorate theirs.

Thank you, Pamela. Our porch is tiny, to say the least, but I always love trying to get the most out of it and love to style it up each season.

Thank you, Kelly. Kirk gets a lot of credit since I begged him to go to Ace and ask for me.😉 Thankfully he is there all the time so they know him by name. So glad we thought to ask.
Hope you have a Merry Christmas too, friend!
