If you’re having a get-together, don’t forget to check out all of our ideas for hosting a New Year’s Eve party, including my tips for how to style a festive grazing table.

Welcom To Midwest Life And Style

If you are visiting me from Rachel’s blog, The Ponds Farmhouse, thank you for stopping by. My mouth is watering at the thought of her beef tenderloin crostini appetizer and I can’t wait to try it!

And, to those friends who may be new here, welcome! I’m Jen. A wife, mom of two, and lifelong Nebraskan. I work full-time as an event planner and added blogger and DIYer to my resume in June of 2020 with the launch of Midwest Life and Style.

Here at MWLS, I love to share helpful decorating tips, seasonal decor, simple DIYs, homemade recipes, and more.

If you enjoy these things too then I’d love to have you join me and subscribe to my weekly newsletter. When you do, you’ll get updates with all of the latest posts sent straight to your inbox, plus you’ll get exclusive access to my free printables library.

But enough about me. Let’s get to the recipe. This Hawaiian cheese ball recipe was always a staple at our family holiday gatherings. With cream cheese, pineapple, green pepper, and pecans, it’s easily one of my favorite appetizers.

If you’ve never tried it before, the green pepper and pineapple pairing might seem strange, but I promise you it’s anything but. It’s the perfect mix of savory and sweet, and the pecans add the perfect texture and crunch.

You can serve the cheese ball with crackers like Triscuits, Wheat Thins, or my favorite, these sea salt pita crackers.

Ingredients For A Hawaiian Cheese Ball

  • 2 8 oz. blocks cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon seasonsed salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped green pepper
  • 1 8 oz. can crushed pineapple, well drained
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onion (optional)
  • 2 cups chopped pecans, divided

How To Make A Hawaiian Cheese Ball

First, add two blocks of softened cream cheese into a large mixing bowl. I used regular cream cheese, but if you’d like to make the recipe a bit lighter, you can use a reduced-fat or fat-free variety.

Use a hand mixer and beat the cream cheese until it’s smooth. Then stir in the seasoned salt. I prefer to use Lawry’s brand, but whatever you have on hand is fine.

Then add the chopped green pepper and onion. I’m not the biggest fan of onions, so I opted to leave them out altogether. I think the recipe is fine without them, or you could also cut the amount of onion in half as well…or keep it as is. It’s up to you!

Drain the crushed pineapple and stir it into the cream cheese mixture along with one cup of the chopped pecans.

Dump the mixture out onto a sheet of plastic wrap, shape it into a ball, and refrigerate overnight or until the mixture becomes firm.

Just before serving, unwrap the cheese ball and roll it in the remaining chopped pecans.

How To Store The Leftovers

This cheese ball tastes just as delicious the next day. To store the leftover mixture, put it in an air-tight food storage container and keep it in the fridge for 3-5 days.
