Tidbits from Home

Last month we celebrated another big birthday…Peyton turned 17!

As cliché as it sounds, I can hardly believe we’re here.

I still remember bringing her home from the hospital and riding in the back seat next to her car seat, and now I’m sitting next to her as a passenger in her car!

She wanted to keep things pretty low-key, so we celebrated with dinner at Raising Cane’s (her pick) and finished the night with a cookie cake from one of our favorite local bakeries.

The one thing she really wanted this year was to get her ears and cartilage pierced, so a few days later, we had a fun mother-daughter day.

We started with her piercings, then treated ourselves to a nail day and some shopping at one of her favorite boutiques.

The Longest Month

Most of February was spent on the road at volleyball tournaments and fighting off the terrible germs that decided to take up residence in our house.

It’s been a month!

Over President’s Day weekend, we were in Kansas City for one of the biggest volleyball tournaments in the country.

Peyton’s team had a great start on day one but ran into some tough competition toward the end and finished with a 2-4 record.

Right before we left for Kansas City, poor Peyton came down with the flu—she was the first one in our house to get hit with all the crud going around.

Thankfully, we got her on Tamiflu, which helped her bounce back a little quicker.

Not long after Peyton started feeling better, Kirk got it too…and just when I thought we were finally in the clear, I got super sick.

I figured it was the flu, but after four days of fever and a nasty cough, I lost my sense of taste and had a bunch of other weird symptoms… so now I’m thinking it was the dreaded “C.”

I’ve been down for about 10 days now but am finally starting to feel halfway human again.

Fingers crossed I’m back to 100% by Thursday because we’re flying to Louisville for our next volleyball tournament!
