Week in Rewind Volume 106
As the saying goes, when it rains, it pours, and never has that felt truer for our family. The last two weeks haven’t exactly gone as planned, and life has thrown us a few curveballs.
Between unexpected doctor visits and some tough moments for each of our girls, the blog naturally took a bit of a backseat. I’ll share more about all of that below, but for now, let’s just say it’s been a season of leaning on friends, family, and each other.
Despite all that, I’m still sharing a few favorite finds along with some cozy fall inspiration from friends, so grab a warm drink, settle in, and let’s catch up with the latest week in rewind!

Tidbits from Home
We’ve had more than our fair share of doctor visits the last couple of weeks, starting with a really scary trip to the ER for Harper. A few weeks ago she came down with what we thought was just the flu, but after more than 15 hours of not being able to keep anything down I finally decided to take her in. I figured it was just dehydration… turns out her heart was racing at over 230 bpm!
Thankfully the team at the hospital jumped in right away, and what started with two nurses quickly turned into a full room of people in a matter of seconds. They gave her fluids and some meds to get her heart back in rhythm, and after about 3 hours we were released.
We’ve had a follow-up with a pediatric cardiologist since then and still don’t really have many answers. But, for now her heart looks good and we’re hoping and praying it was just a one-time thing. She’s back to her normal self now, which we’re so thankful for.
A Season We Never Planned For
And that brings me to Peyton. On Tuesday, September 9 her senior sports season came to a sudden and heartbreaking end.
That night, in the 4th set of her volleyball match, she went down on a non-contact play. In the moment I remember feeling an instant sense of dread…and while I hoped her injury was only minor, as I watched her physically drag herself off the court I think in my heart of hearts I knew it wasn’t good.
We met with the ortho a few days after the initial injury, and after a couple of quick tests, his face and tone of voice changed suddenly.

ACL are the three little letters that are every athlete’s worst nightmare and something no parent ever wants to hear. And yet, that’s the reality we are facing. A torn ACL in her right knee.
No more volleyball. No track. And no last season of club ball.

It still doesn’t feel real, and we’ve been riding a wave of emotions since her diagnois. Anger. Sadness. Disbelief. The grief comes in waves, and I imagine it will continue to sneak up on all of us from time to time.
Where Do We Go From Here
So where do we go from here? For the second time in just 15 months, we start this process all over.

In June of 2024, Peyton had surgery for a torn ligament in her left ankle. That recovery was grueling, and honestly maybe harder mentally than physically. It’s tough for any athlete to have the sport they love suddenly taken away. The frustration of their body betraying them and the isolation they feel is something that’s hard to understand unless you’ve been through it.
Peyton was playing the best volleyball of her career, and for us to be back at square one feels incredibly cruel and unfair.
It’s easy to ask “why her?” but the truth is… why not her? With sports, there’s always risk, and sometimes the things that bring us the most joy can also bring us the most pain. She’s just had the unfortunate luck of finding that out twice.

This is not how we pictured her senior year going. Right now, we’re trying to collect ourselves, figure out how to best support her through rehab, and keep life as normal as possible.
Recently, Husker volleyball player Laney Choboy talked about her own journey through adversity. She said that over the last two years she asked for flowers but instead got rain. But, when she stepped back, she realized flowers need rain to grow. I think that’s such a good reminder for us right now. We’re trying to find the flowers in the rain and focus on getting Peyton healthy and ready for college ball next fall.
We would love your prayers as she begins this journey. And if you’ve been through something similar, or know someone who has, we’ll take all the tips to help make the road to recovery as smooth as possible.

Recently on the Blog
With all of this week’s doctor’s appointments, I didn’t have time to share any new posts. But since I finally pulled out the bins and got the house decorated for fall, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at a few of my past fall home tours.

Our entry and dining room are always two of my favorite spots in the house to decorate. I love mixing in rustic touches with cozy throw blankets, like my favorite plaid neutral throw.

I also like to add a few fall touches to our bedroom, with some plaid accents, wreaths, and little pops of seasonal color.

And of course our living room gets the cozy treatment too with a fall garland on the mantel, and a vignette with pumpkins and my favorite cloche on our coffee table.

I’m still hoping to share some new Halloween-themed posts with you soon, so be sure to stay tuned.
