Week in Rewind Volume 118

Happy Sunday, friend!

After some amazing spring-like weather and even a few record highs, Mother Nature reminded us that it’s still winter with the return of the cold… and a lot of snow. (More on that in a bit.)

Until recently, we’ve been pretty lucky this winter when it comes to bad weather. I probably shouldn’t complain, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I have a bit of spring fever already.

Here on the blog, I’ve shared several posts lately, including a new appetizer recipe. And with the Olympics in Italy, I shared tips for hosting an Italian-inspired dinner party, an Italian-inspired one-pot dinner that’s perfect for busy weeknights, and a new recipe roundup filled with 10 ideas to bring a taste of Italy to your table.

And, as always, I’m also sharing ideas and inspiration from a few of my blogging friends.

So grab something warm and cozy, get comfy, and let’s catch up on the latest week in rewind.

Tidbits from Home

Birthday Celebrations

It’s been a month of celebrations, starting with Peyton’s 18th birthday.

Over the years, there have been several birthdays with both of my girls that have made me pause and feel all the feels. But, 18… oof. 18 hit me unexpectedly harder than most.

It was a mixed bag of emotions. Pride for the amazing young adult she has become, disbelief that 18 years have seemingly gone by at lightning speed, and just a tiny tinge of sadness knowing this will be the last birthday we get to celebrate together with her at home, at least for the foreseeable future.

We enjoyed a low-key celebration in our jammies with pizza, presents, and a cookie cake, which is our family tradition.

And we had another big birthday milestone this month. My sister’s husband, Greg, turned 40! We took a quick day trip to see them and attend Greg’s (mostly) surprise party. It was such a fun night, and we also got to see my parents, which made it even better.

Life Lately

Beyond birthdays, the last few weeks have been filled with a little bit of everything… including our weather!

Earlier in the week, we set new record highs with temperatures in the mid-70s. It was so gorgeous that we got out for a walk, and Harper got to break in the new bike she got for Christmas.

But as the saying goes here in Nebraska, if you don’t like the weather, just wait… and boy did it change.

We went from the 70s to 7 inches of snow, although I don’t think Kirk and the girls minded too much since they ended up with a bonus snow day at home.

Last week, Peyton and I also went to Creighton University’s campus for her to participate in a study for athletes who have torn their ACL. It was very interesting and gave us a great baseline to see how she’s recovering and regaining her strength and stability, a little over four months post-surgery. Her testing numbers were very good, and we’re hopeful she can start adding a bit of light jogging and jumping into her physical therapy sessions soon.

And yesterday, we capped off the week by going prom dress shopping. It was such a fun day, and after trying on only 4 dresses, she found “the one.” Last year, she missed prom due to a club volleyball tournament, so I’m glad she’ll get to have this experience at least once.

I’ll save the big reveal of her dress until prom night in April, but for now, here’s a quick snap we took before our shopping adventures.

  • My favorite Pottery Barn bunnies are back again this year, and they’ve even added a few mini versions to the collection!
  • I originally ordered this for a creative project, but it’s quickly turned into the girls’ favorite way to do movie nights at home.
  • If you’re hosting Easter this year, I’ve rounded up a few beautiful entertaining essentials for your brunch or dinner table.
  • I’ve been on a big overnight oats kick lately and I can’t say enough good things about these glass jars. They even come with lids and snap locks to prevent spills in the fridge.
  • I’m on the hunt for a graduation dress, and this pretty one is currently in my cart. It comes in multiple colors and would be great for Easter or as a wedding guest dress.
  • These are also in my cart and would be perfect for spring and summer outfits.
  • I added these into my self-care routine and didn’t expect to love them this much.
  • If you’re planning a graduation party soon (or know someone who is), I started this list with all our favorite must-have items. I’ll keep updating it throughout the spring as we make purchases, so bookmark it and pop back in anytime you need party inspiration.
