Week in Rewind Volume 120

Happy belated Fourth of July! We’re recovering from a fun weekend in my hometown with family (more on that below), so I’m sharing this week’s recap a bit later than usual.

Speaking of belated, it’s been another busy few weeks here since our last chat. I keep thinking life will slow down, and I’ll get back into a routine of sharing here more regularly, but I probably need to learn that one form of busy just gets replaced with another. Our summer has been filled with recitals, celebrations, and prepping to send our oldest off to college. (And yes, there have already been tears.)

Needless to say, I’ve got plenty to catch you up on, so grab a drink, settle in, and let’s rewind the week.

Tidbits from Home

Recital Weekend

Two weeks after graduation, we went from a cap and gown for our oldest daughter to recital costumes for our youngest.

Family standing and smiling ready for a dance recital

Harper had her dance recital, which made for a fun but busy three-day stretch. Kirk’s mom made the trip back, my parents came, and we packed the seats to cheer her on.

It was such a fun weekend watching her do what she loves most, but I’m glad it only happens once every two years.

Between that and graduation, I’m one tired momma!

Alaskan Adventures

Right after the recital, Peyton headed off on a 10-day graduation trip to Alaska with Kirk’s mom and stepdad.

Views of Mt. Denali in Alaska and a lake with kayaks

She visited Santa Land, soaked in the Chena Hot Springs, explored an ice museum, did an Alaskan husky tour, rode ATVs near Denali National Park, and went boating on the Chena River.

We missed her so much while she was gone, but I’m thankful she got to have this incredible experience.

She’s our outdoorsy adventure girl, so this trip was the perfect way for her to celebrate her graduation.

Two Decades and Counting

On June 24, Kirk and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. We were just college kids when we met, and now we’re getting ready to send our oldest off to college. Seriously…how did that happen?

We usually celebrate the “big” anniversaries with a fun trip. For our 10th, we headed to Frisco and Breckenridge, Colorado, for some sightseeing, and for our 15th, we spent a few days in Winter Park hiking, white-water rafting, and just relaxing together.

This year, there was no big anniversary getaway. As it turns out, senior year, graduation, and getting ready to send a kid off to college is expensive!

Instead, we celebrated a few days later with a belated anniversary dinner before heading home to watch the USA vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina World Cup match. But we’ll make up for the missed getaway soon.

Between trips to visit Peyton this fall and all the adventures still ahead, I’m pretty sure another anniversary trip isn’t too far off.

4th of July Weekend

We spent a fun (and busy!) few days in my hometown celebrating the Fourth of July.

I always look forward to all the festivities, but as I shared in a recent Instagram reel, it’s become about so much more than the holiday itself.

It’s about spending time together, carrying on traditions, slowing down for a few days, and making memories with the people who matter most.

We packed a lot into the weekend, including the parade, a 5K color run, and time at the river.

Outdoor movie night set up with a movie being projected on the back of a house

We even set up our own outdoor movie night on the 3rd (complete with homemade popcorn and candy, of course!).

And we were treated to the most gorgeous sunset before the fireworks on the 4th. I think I need a weekend from my weekend now, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Hosting and Entertaining Favorites

If something catches your eye, you can tap the images below to shop the full collection.

  • If you’re looking for a new rug, Target is currently running an amazing sale up to 50% off tons of styles!
  • We used this projector to watch The Sheep Detective for our outdoor movie night over the weekend, and it was such a cute (albeit a bit sad at times) movie! If you’ve got kids or grandkids, be sure to add it to your summer movie list.
  • I’m still on my overnight oats kick. I can’t say enough good things about these glass jars. They even come with lids and snap locks to prevent spills in the fridge.
  • I added these into my self-care routine and didn’t expect to love them this much.
  • I received these solar lanterns as a birthday gift a few years ago. They’ve become one of my favorite parts of our backyard garden, and right now they’re on sale.
  • This makeup had been on my wishlist forever, so I finally grabbed both the foundation and this primer during the Prime Day sales. They’re absolutely worth the hype!
