Ralph Lauren-Inspired Traditional Christmas Decorating Ideas
I always look forward to sharing our Christmas home tour each year, and this season might be one of my favorites yet.
If you’re planning your Christmas decor ideas for the season, I hope my home tour gives you some inspiration to get started.
I’ve tried several different holiday looks over the years, from green and gold to green and blue. I’ve even tried a more rustic Christmas color scheme with softer, neutral tones.
But no matter how many styles I try, I always come back to classic red. It’s the one color that truly makes our home feel warm and joyful, and, when it’s missing, it just doesn’t feel like Christmas to me.

I loved the red and blue in our dining room last Christmas, so when it came time to plan this year’s decor, I knew I wanted to use those colors again.
Paired with deep greens, warm golds, tartan plaid, velvet ribbon, and lots of greenery, they worked perfectly and helped me put my own spin on the viral Ralph Lauren-inspired Christmas trend everyone’s talking about this season.
Decorating Tip: Finding Your Holiday Style
Find what feels like you. If you’re not sure where to start, pay attention to the colors and decorations you naturally reach for each year. That is usually where your style lives. Use trends as a starting point, then mix in your favorite everyday decor so everything feels collected and personal.

This year’s tour includes our entryway and dining room. And, for the first time, I’m also sharing our kitchen!
You’ll see plenty of simple traditional Christmas decorating ideas, including lots of plaids, classic ornaments, warm metals, velvet ribbons, and simple styling ideas you can use in your own home, whether you love a classic holiday look, a cozy cottage feel, or a mix of both.
I’m also excited to be joining a great group of bloggers for the 2025 Blogger’s Best Holiday Home Tour. You’ll find all of their beautiful homes linked at the bottom of this post if you want to take a peek.
So settle in, sip your coffee, and enjoy touring our holiday home. I hope these traditional Christmas decorating ideas inspire you as you get ready for the season.

Ralph Lauren Christmas Decor: Your Guide to the Look
The Ralph Lauren Christmas aesthetic combines rich colors, layered textures, and a style that is both timeless and classic.
Deep greens, reds, and touches of navy pair beautifully with tartan plaid, velvet ribbon, greenery, and warm metals to create a holiday look that feels warm, collected, and inviting.

What I love most is taking inspiration from this trend and blending it with my own personal style.
Instead of the leather and moodier pieces that often come with the Ralph Lauren look, I leaned into the cottage charm of our home, my favorite vintage finds, and the well-loved pieces that tell our family’s story.
The whole mix has just a hint of that Ralph Lauren Christmas decor style while still feeling very “me”.
Decorating Tip: Make any trend your own
Deck the halls your way! Trends are fun, but they should never feel like rules. Let them inspire you, then mix in the pieces you already love. The best style is always the one that feels right to you.
And even though today’s tour focuses on the entry, dining room, and kitchen, you can also take a peek at how I decorated our living room for past Christmases right here.
So, come on in, and I’ll show you how this year’s holiday home came together, starting right inside our entryway.
Decorating Ideas to Create a Traditional Christmas Entry
Welcome to our home! We’re starting in the entryway, which is always one of my favorite rooms in our home to decorate.

Because this space flows straight into our dining room and kitchen, I kept the color palette the same so the main floor feels connected and cohesive as you walk through.
How to Style an Entry Table for Christmas
If you toured last year’s Christmas dining room, then this cozy little corner may look familiar.
Right off our entryway is the vintage dresser I refinished a few years ago, and it’s still one of my favorite pieces to style for Christmas.
Even though it’s not a traditional console table, this vintage dresser works perfectly, and as a bonus, it doubles as extra storage for many of my table linens and serving pieces.
I love playing around with little Christmas vignettes here, and it always ends up being the first place I start decorating when I pull out the holiday bins.

On the dresser sits an old typewriter that I found during an antique shopping trip with my mom a few years ago.
I love to leave it out year-round and enjoy styling it for each of the different seasons.

Last Christmas, I tucked this sweet Santa print into the roller, and I decided to do the same again this year.
I just traded the old barnwood frame for a simple gold one to give it a more traditional Christmas look with a little of that luxe Ralph Lauren charm.
For the rest of the vignette, I scattered some old Christmas postcards across the top of the dresser. They add the sweetest nostalgic touch, and a few of them are more than 100 years old!
This whole vignette is such an easy way to add simple pieces of traditional Christmas decor without spending a lot of money.

For some height and a little sparkle, I added a pair of lighted grapevine cone trees and set them on top of a stack of red vintage books.

I didn’t add much else to this corner because everything already fits so well with the traditional Christmas decorating ideas I love, but I did bring in a few new touches for the season.
Decorating Tip: Start with what you have
Don’t overbuy! You don’t need a cart full of new Christmas decor to recreate a look you love. Shop your home first before purchasing anything new. Look through your current decorations and pull together colors, textures, and pieces that fit your color scheme. You might be surprised at what you find (or forgot you had!) and how easy it is to decorate without spending much at all.

Above the dresser hangs a large antique mirror, and this year I dressed it with a simple evergreen swag tied with red velvet ribbon. The deep red bow adds just the right amount of color and feels very classic and timeless.

I also added a little Santa bust that has quickly become a favorite. He started bright white, but I gave him a quick rub-and-buff makeover so he would blend in with my other vintage pieces.
The soft, aged gold finish fits right in and adds a pretty, collected look.

It’s amazing how a few simple Christmas decorations can make a space feel instantly cheerful.

A Cozy “Makeshift Mudroom”
Even though we don’t have a true mudroom, this little corner by the front door has become our makeshift version of one.
My family rarely uses it for actual coats or bags, but that’s perfectly fine by me because it gives me a fun spot to decorate.

I draped a simple garland with twinkle lights across the reclaimed wood shelf, tucked in a few pinecones, and hung a pair of vintage skates from the hooks.
It’s such a tiny space, but even just a few pieces of holiday decor make it feel special.
A plaid throw blanket in a basket underneath adds a cozy touch, and the old chair I keep here year-round makes the whole corner feel warm and welcoming.
On the back of the door, I hung a bright red berry wreath that brings in such a pretty pop of color.

And one of my favorite little details is the black mailbox on the coat closet door. I filled it with more vintage Christmas postcards, and it’s such a sweet nod to the collected holiday look I love.
Even the smallest corners can be a great spot to try out new Christmas decor ideas, especially if you love mixing old and new pieces.

Traditional Christmas Decorating Ideas for Your Dining Room
The dining room is always one of my favorite spaces to decorate for the holidays.
It already feels warm and inviting on its own, and with a little classic Christmas decor sprinkled in, it becomes the perfect spot to gather with our family and friends.

Most years, I put up a tree in the corner across from our barn door, but with our schedules feeling a little extra full this season, I decided to keep things simpler.
Even without the tree, the room still feels festive and cozy, thanks to the traditional color palette and a few vintage finds I’ve loved for years.

Our old barn door adds a touch of rustic charm, and this year I hung a giant wreath on it with red berries and a tartan plaid bow to tie in the colors from the table.
It makes such a pretty focal point and instantly brings that classic Christmas look into the room.
Decorating Tip:
Pick one thing you love and build from there! If you feel stuck, choose one thing you love—a wreath, a garland, your dishes, or even a blanket—and build the rest of the room around it. Sometimes the smallest item can spark inspiration.
How to Style a Dining Room Buffet for the Holidays
Along the back wall is our buffet. Since we don’t have a lot of storage in our dining room, it gets a lot of use, especially during the holidays or anytime we’re hosting.
Not only does it store my chargers, linens, and serving pieces, but it’s also the perfect spot for entertaining.
I love using it for an extra food or drink station, and it’s been the backdrop for more than one New Year’s Eve buffet over the years.

Next, I added a pair of gold lanterns, a Christmas sign with one of my favorite verses from Luke 2:11, and the cutest red Christmas tree drink dispenser that I just found at Goodwill.
I love it when a thrifted find fits right in and proves you don’t need to spend a lot to get a classic, luxe holiday look.

Above the buffet hangs a vintage leaded glass window I found at a local antique store. On each side are the old corbels from the wraparound porch on my grandparents’ farmhouse.
My grandpa never threw anything away, and he saved them in the hayloft when the house was remodeled back in the 70s. I’m so grateful to have them now.
Every time I walk by, they bring back the sweetest memories of big family Christmases at the farmhouse when I was a little girl.
If you like mixing old and new pieces, this is such an easy way to get a vintage Christmas decorating look.
Little Christmas Details that Bring the Room Together
To warm up this wall, I draped a garland across the top of the vintage window and wove a strand of jingle bells through it. It is such a simple little touch, but it adds just enough sparkle to make the whole corner feel festive.
Decorating Tip:
When I use garlands, I almost always tuck in a few extra stems to make them look fuller. You can use whatever you already have — frosted branches, pinecones, or leftover greenery from another project.

On the buffet, I set out a tiered tray with my holly and berry glasses, some plaid napkins, and a few things I tend to grab when we’re hosting.
It keeps everything together but still adds color and texture to the room.
Entertaining Tip
A tiered tray is great for corralling smaller pieces so they look intentional instead of scattered. It also frees up space on the buffet when you need room for food or drinks.
Easy Ideas to Try in Your Own Dining Room

Traditional Christmas Decorating Ideas for a Classic Holiday Tablescape
When I set a table for any season, I almost always start with layers. It is such an easy way to add interest and pull a look together.
Whether it is Christmas brunch, a cozy winter dinner party, a casual holiday breakfast, or even a book club get-together, layers always seem to make the table feel a little more special.
For Christmas this year, I worked with the same red and blue palette and mixed in more green and gold to create a traditional Christmas tablescape that feels classic and so easy to recreate.

For the base, I folded a tartan blanket and used it as a runner. It brings in instant color and texture, and it is one of my favorite little tricks.
And if you like decorating with plaids as much as I do, mixing them is easier than it looks. If the colors play nicely together, the patterns will too.

In the center of the table, I added a simple DIY sleigh centerpiece filled with faux greenery and a mix of red, blue, green, and gold ornaments.
You can use whatever you have on hand to recreate the look…classic balls, traditional Christmas ornaments, or even vintage finds.

It pulls the whole color scheme together without feeling too busy, and its low height keeps the table open and easy for conversation.

From there, I layered the place settings. Gold-rimmed chargers add a soft shimmer under the plates, and between each dinner and salad plate, I tucked a navy linen napkin for a bit of contrast.

A red fringed napkin on top with a deer head napkin ring brings in that traditional holiday charm.
If you want to add a personal touch, you can easily make your own napkin rings too. It’s such a fun little detail, and I have a simple DIY version you can try that looks great on a holiday table.

To finish the look, I used red goblets for a bold pop of color and gold flatware to tie in the warm tones from the rest of the table.
It’s simple, classic, and so easy to recreate with pieces you already have.

Traditional Christmas Decorating Ideas to Style a Warm and Cozy Kitchen
This is my first time sharing our kitchen as part of a holiday home tour, and I had so much fun decorating it.
I usually keep things pretty simple in here, but once I brought in the rich reds, greens, navy, and gold from the rest of the house, it all came together.

The traditional Christmas color palette gives the kitchen a warm and cozy feeling that fits right in with the rest of our home.
Tips for Decorating Above Your Kitchen Cabinets
Since we don’t have open shelving, I used the tops of the cabinets and added my favorite faux cedar garland. I love how it made the whole kitchen instantly feel warm and festive.
I also tucked in a few of my white dishes and ironstone serving pieces. They’re usually displayed there year-round, and they fit right in with the Christmas greenery while helping fill the space between the cabinet tops and our vaulted ceiling.

I added a little color with a few sprigs of greenery and berries on the platters, and I tucked my DIY gingerbread village houses up there, too.

The kitchen has a mix of new and vintage pieces that help bring in that cozy, Ralph Lauren-inspired feel.
One of my favorite accents is a big crock filled with antique rolling pins. I added a little greenery and tied on a velvet ribbon for a simple holiday touch.
How to Create Countertop Vignettes
On the counters, I put together a few little vignettes to add some holiday cheer without taking over our limited counter space.

The first little setup is a round basket with a few glass tree candy jars. (Remember the ones everyone’s grandma seemed to have at Christmas?)
I filled them with red, blue, green, and gold ornaments and then tucked in a gold frame with a vintage reindeer print.

Next to the radio is the sweetest little vignette with a vintage plaid lunch box. I set it on a wooden cutting board and filled it with a mini tree and a few ornaments.

A little further down the counter are my canisters, all dressed up with red velvet bows and a bit of greenery.
And right beside them is the cutest tartan plaid candle warmer, plus my favorite pine candle…seriously, it smells so good!
A Cozy Coffee Corner
We don’t really have room for a full coffee bar, but I still like to dress up this little corner with our coffee pot.

I pulled out my favorite Santa mugs for the season and added a few sprigs of greenery to my vintage coffee grinder.
It’s simple, but it makes our morning coffee feel a little more festive.

On the stove, I hung a plaid tea towel across the handle and set out my dark green Dutch oven. I couldn’t resist that color.

It’s perfect for making a holiday simmer pot or one of my favorite cozy soup recipes.
Over by the fridge, I grouped a few of my cutting boards together to bring in some warmth and texture. One of them belonged to my great-grandma, so it’s extra special.
Then I tied a little greenery and ribbon to that one, and set a white house cookie jar beside the boards for a sweet, simple holiday touch
Simple Christmas Centerpiece Ideas for a Small Kitchen Table
Next is our cozy little eat-in kitchen table. It’s a family heirloom that was passed down to us, and a few years ago, I gave it a fresh makeover. I still love the dusty green color.

For the season, I styled it with a large wreath and a few mercury glass trees in different sizes and colors.
Then I wove a strand of twinkle lights through the wreath, which gives the prettiest glow in the evenings.

A Simple and Festive Christmas Cocoa Bar
And last but not least on the holiday home tour is our little Christmas hot cocoa bar. It sits just off the kitchen, and it’s such a fun, easy way to add a bit of holiday charm.

If you’re looking for simple, family-friendly traditional Christmas decorating ideas, it really doesn’t get better than a cozy little cocoa station everyone can enjoy.

To set it up, I started by filling a mug rack with more of my favorite Santa mugs. They add so much personality, and honestly, they make me smile every time I walk by.

Then I added a vintage Santa mug filled with gold spoons and a tiny potted tree for a little greenery.

And right next to the rack, I set out some hot cocoa mix and a few of our favorite toppings. I added the free printable labels I made a while back, and they always make this little setup feel extra cute.
If you want a set for your own cocoa bar, you can grab them HERE.

To finish the cocoa bar decor, I added a small garland, a strand of twinkle lights, and a sign in a chippy white frame with a vintage print of Santa in his sleigh…. the perfect finishing touch.
