Fall On The New England Coast
Happy Thursday, friends, and welcome to another brand new supper club. It’s hard to believe we’ve been hosting these parties for nearly two years! In that time, my friends and I have shared more than 20 different themed tablescapes and party menus. From backyard tailgates to fall harvest parties and Thanksgiving dinners. We’ve covered a lot!
This month we took inspiration from autumn in New England and local chowder festivals to dream up some coastal fall tablescape looks for you.
Whether you are a regular here at MWLS or visiting for the first time, thank you for stopping by. I know your time is precious, and I appreciate your support so much! I love getting to know my readers, so don’t be shy. Drop me a line to say “hi” in the comments, and let me know where you are joining me from.
This month our guest host for supper club is Renae at Peacock Ridge Farm. Renae lives on a ten-acre farm in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. Her home has been beautifully remodeled and is full of vintage french country charm.
If you don’t know Renae, I hope you’ll take a bit of time to visit her blog. Each page is filled with decor inspiration and loads of delicious recipes. You won’t be disappointed!
How To Style A Coastal Tablescape For Fall
For each tablescape, I start with an inspiration piece, and this time I was inspired by nature. The calming colors of the coastline guided the color palette for my table which includes tans, creams, and deep ocean blues.
This is the first time I’ve used blue in my fall decor and I think it may just be my new favorite autumn accent color!
Setting The Table
For each place setting, I started with a blue and white striped placemat. Then I layered two different chargers on top for a bit of added texture and color.
The woven sisal charger reminds me of the rope you might see on ships docked in the harbor. And the galvanized metal charge gives the place setting a rustic feel.
For the dishes, I used my favorite cream stoneware plates. They are sturdy enough for everyday use, but the fluted style of the rims makes them perfect for special a tablescape like this coastal fall setting. And, because they are white, these dishes are super versatile and can be used all year long.
With such an emphasis on neutral tones, I knew I wanted to add more color to the table to break up all of the cream and tan. And these blue soup bowls fit the bill.
I kid you not when I say that I found them at my local Goodwill the day before I shot these photos. Talk about meant to be!
To help tie all the elements of my coastal style fall tablescape together, I placed the blue soup bowls on top of a small breadboard. I love the contrast between the warm autumn tones and the cool crisp blues. And, don’t they look like a fun way to serve your favorite cozy chowder recipe?
Then, to finish off each place setting I added some small glass tumblers. The wicker accent on the glasses is another fun way to add coastal touches to the table.
5-Minute DIY Coastal Napkin Rings
Another way I added a hint of coastal style to my fall tablescape was with these DIY coastal napkin rings
A glue gun, some supplies from The Dollar store, and 5 minutes were all I needed to make these custom napkin rings.
Quick, and easy are my favorite kind of projects, and this was both. And they turned out even better than I envisioned, which in my book, is always a win.
How To Style A Coastal Centerpiece For Fall
Maples are one of my favorite fall trees. So when I spotted this neutral garland, I knew it would be the perfect way to infuse a bit of autumn into my coastal style tablescape.
To create my coastal fall centerpiece, I started by stretching the garland down the center of the table.
Then I used smaller picks of dark brown leaves to mix into the garland for a bit of depth and contrast.
I tucked a few sea shells and votive candles into the fall garland centerpiece for a beachy feel.
To finish the centerpiece I added some more metal elements with a few rustic candle holders. They help add height to the centerpiece and provide balance with the galvanized chargers.
