Ralph Lauren Inspired Traditional Christmas Decorating Ideas
I always look forward to sharing a Christmas home tour every year, and this season might be one of my favorites yet.
This year, I pulled together everything I love about a classic Christmas and blended it with the Ralph Lauren-inspired look that is everywhere on social media and Pinterest. Deep greens, rich reds, touches of navy, tartan plaid, red velvet ribbon, and plenty of greenery gave our home that warm, collected feel with a fresh twist for the season.
I look forward to sharing a home tour every Christmas, and this season might be one of my favorites yet. I took all the colors and textures that I love most for the holidays and blended them with the trending Ralph Lauren look that is everywhere right now.
Picture rich reds, deep greens, layers of navy, lots of tartan plaid, red velvet ribbon, and extra greenery tucked in wherever it felt right. It has that timeless, collected look that I’m always drawn to, but with a fresh twist.
If you have been here for a while, you already know that red is my tried and true holiday color. It shows up all over our house every December, and it just feels like Christmas to me. So building our decor around those classic shades felt natural. I mixed in some gold accents, vintage pieces I’ve collected over the years, and a few sentimental touches that hold sweet memories. One of them is a plaid lunch box I found while thrifting with my mom years ag,o and it always makes me smile when I pull it out.
This year’s tour includes our entryway, dining room, and, for the first time ever, our kitchen. These spaces all flow togethe,r so I kept the color palette consistent to help everything feel connected. You will see lots of plaids, classic ornaments, beautiful ribbon, and simple styling ideas that you can use in your own home.
So settle in, sip your coffee, and enjoy a peek at our holiday home. I hope these traditional Christmas decorating ideas inspire you as you get ready for the season.

Decorating Ideas to Create a Traditional Christmas Entry
Welcome to our home. We’re starting this year’s tour in the entryway, where I leaned into a mix of traditional Christmas decorating ideas and that classic Ralph Lauren-inspired style I’ve been loving. This space flows right into our dining room and kitchen, so I kept the colors and textures consistent to help the whole main floor feel connected.

One of my favorite pieces in our home sits just off the entry. It’s a vintage dresser that I refinished years ago, and it always becomes a focal point during the holidays.

I styled it with another collected find, an old typewriter, and tucked a sweet Santa print inside the roller.

To give the display a little nostalgic charm, I sprinkled a handful of vintage Christmas postcards across the top of the dresser. I love how the postcards bring in touches of red and add a bit of history to the vignette.
Easy Ways to Get a Traditional Christmas Look on a Budget
If you want the traditional Ralph Lauren-inspired look without spending much, here are a few simple ideas you can try using things you already have at home.
For some height and a little sparkle, I added a pair of lighted grapevine cone trees and set them on top of a stack of red vintage books. Above the dresser hangs a large antique mirror, and this year I dressed it with a simple evergreen swag tied with red velvet ribbon. The deep red bow adds just the right amount of color and feels very classic and timeless.
Another new favorite this season is the little Santa bust I found. It was originally bright white, but I added a bit of rub and buff to give it an aged gold finish. It blends in beautifully with the rest of the vintage pieces and adds a hint of that luxe, collected Ralph Lauren look.

Traditional Christmas Dining Room Decorating Ideas
The dining room is always one of my favorite spaces to decorate for the holidays. I love how this room naturally feels warm and inviting, and with a few traditional Christmas decorating ideas, it becomes the perfect spot to gather with family and friends. This year, I leaned into classic red, green, navy, and gold for a rich, timeless palette that feels inspired by that cozy Ralph Lauren style I’m loving.
Since the tablescape brings in so much color and texture, I kept the rest of the room simple but intentional. On the left side of the room, our old barn door adds a touch of rustic charm, and I hung a giant wreath on it with red berries and a tartan plaid bow to tie in the colors from the table. The wreath makes such a pretty focal point and adds a festive pop to that entire corner.
Along the back wall, the buffet holds a mix of practical pieces and seasonal decor. I added a pair of gold lanterns for soft evening glow, a Luke 2:11 sign as a reminder of the heart of the season, and a red Christmas tree drink dispenser for holiday gatherings. A tiered tray holds holly and berry glasses, plaid napkins, and a few extra touches you can easily pull from when hosting a holiday brunch. It’s functional and pretty all at once.
Above the buffet is one of my favorite collected pieces, a vintage leaded glass window. On each side are corbels that once belonged to the wraparound porch on my grandparents’ farmhouse. They add a sentimental layer that makes this room feel even more personal. To bring in a bit of greenery, I draped a garland along the top of the window and added a strand of jingle bell garland for a subtle sparkle.
When I style my garlands, I like to tuck in extra stems to make them feel fuller and more custom. Frosted branches, pinecones, or leftover greenery all work beautifully. Small details like these make the room feel thoughtful without needing anything complicated.
Even without a large tree in here, the dining room still feels festive and cozy. The traditional color palette, mixed textures, and collected pieces help bring everything together in a way that feels timeless and welcoming.Traditional Christmas Dining Room Ideas for a Timeless Holiday Look
Next on the tour is our dining room, and this space might be one of my favorites this year. I kept many of the red and blue elements from last Christmas because I loved that look so much, but I added more green and touches of gold to tie everything into the traditional, Ralph Lauren-inspired palette. The mix feels warm, classic, and a little bit nostalgic.
The table is dressed with a tartan plaid blanket that I turned into a table runner. It’s one of my favorite styling tricks, and it adds so much color and texture. I’m a big believer that you don’t need to be afraid of mixing and matching plaids. A few different patterns can look beautiful together, especially when the colors stay in the same family. I’ll link last year’s red and blue dining room Christmas post here so you can see how I styled it then.
In the center of the table is a simple DIY Christmas sleigh centerpiece. I filled it with faux greenery and a mix of red, blue, green, and gold ornaments to pull together the whole color scheme. I wanted the centerpiece to feel a little understated this year, so I focused on pieces that made the table feel charming without being too busy.
Traditional Christmas Tablescape Decorating Ideas
When it comes to holiday decorating, the dining table is one of my favorite places to start. A well-styled tablescape sets the tone for the whole room, and I love pulling in traditional Christmas decorating ideas with rich colors and layered textures. For this look, I used a palette of deep red, green, navy, and gold to create a classic, Ralph Lauren inspired mix that feels warm and timeless.
To build the base of the table, I folded a tartan plaid blanket and used it as a runner. It adds instant pattern and texture and is an easy way to bring in those traditional holiday colors. You don’t have to be afraid to mix plaids either. When the colors relate, different patterns blend beautifully and create a collected, layered look.
In the center of the table, I added a simple DIY Christmas sleigh centerpiece filled with faux greenery and a mix of red, blue, green, and gold ornaments. It’s a low, easy arrangement that keeps the table feeling festive without blocking conversation.
From there, I started layering the place settings. Glass chargers with gold rims created a soft shimmer underneath the plates. On top, I used classic holiday dishes, and between the dinner and salad plates, I tucked a navy linen napkin for a bit of contrast. A red fringed linen napkin and a deer head napkin ring gave the top layer a traditional, slightly masculine touch that fits right in with the Ralph Lauren inspired palette.
There are plenty of ways to change up the look too. A festive napkin fold, like a Christmas tree, adds a fun twist for holiday gatherings. A handmade napkin ring brings in a personal touch. And seasonal centerpieces—like a small tree, a bowl of ornaments, or a simple arrangement of greenery—help make the table feel thoughtful and inviting.
To finish each place setting, I brought in red goblet wine glasses for a pop of color and gold silverware to tie in the warm metallic tones from the chargers and decor.
Here are a few simple ideas to help you recreate a similar look at home.
How to Create a Traditional Christmas Tablescape at Home
If you want a classic Christmas table with that collected, Ralph Lauren inspired feel, here are a few simple traditional decorating ideas to try.
Traditional Christmas Kitchen Decorating Ideas
This is my first time sharing our kitchen as part of a holiday home tour, and I had so much fun decorating it. I usually keep things pretty simple in here, but once I brought in the rich reds, greens, navy, and gold from the rest of the house, it all came together.

The traditional Christmas color palette gives the kitchen a warm, collected feeling that fits right in with the rest of our home.
Decorating Above the Cabinets
Since we don’t have open shelving, I used the space above our cabinets to bring in some height and texture. A layer of garland adds greenery and helps frame the room for the season.

I also displayed a few of my favorite pieces from my collection of white dishes and ironstone.
To add a little color, I tucked greenery and berries into some of the platters. My DIY gingerbread village houses are up there, too, adding a fun and festive touch to the whole space.

The kitchen has a mix of new and vintage pieces that help bring in that cozy, Ralph Lauren-inspired feel. One of my favorite accents is a big crock filled with antique rolling pins. I added a little greenery and tied on a velvet ribbon for a simple holiday touch.
Countertop Vignettes
On the counter, I created several small vignettes to add charm without taking away from the function of the kitchen.

The first is a round basket filled with glass tree candy jars. You know the ones that always seemed to show up at your grandma’s house at Christmas. I filled them with ornaments in red, blue, green, and gold. A gold frame with a vintage reindeer print sits beside them, along with a green mercury glass votive to tie in the color palette.

Underneath the radio against the tile wall is the sweetest little vignette with my vintage plaid lunch box. I set it on a wood cutting board and filled it with a mini tree and ornaments. Beside it is a cookbook holder with a stack of my favorite holiday cookbooks.

Further down the counter are my everyday canisters, each tied with red velvet bows and a small sprig of greenery. Next to those sits a tartan plaid candle warmer I found this year and my favorite pine candle from Walmart.

In the corner is our coffee maker, and I styled that area with a cute Santa mug and a vintage coffee grinder with some greenery tucked on top.

The stove has a plaid tea towel hung across the handle and a dark green Dutch oven on the burner, which adds just the right touch of color. And next to the fridge is a small grouping of cutting boards.

One is my great-grandma’s and means so much to me. I tied greenery and ribbon to that one too. Beside the boards sits a white house cookie jar for a simple seasonal touch.

On our small eat-in table, I styled a large wreath with two mercury glass trees in different sizes and colors. I wove a strand of twinkle lights through the wreath for a pretty glow in the evenings.
Simple Ways to Decorate a Kitchen for Christmas
If you want a warm and traditional Christmas kitchen without spending much, here are a few easy ideas to try.
- Use ribbon anywhere you can: Tie velvet or tartan plaid ribbon around canisters, crock handles, cutting boards, or baskets.
- Create small vignettes: A cutting board, a candle, and a touch of greenery can make even a small corner feel festive.
- Bring in natural greenery: Tuck a few stems into platters or crocks for a fresh seasonal look.
- Mix in meaningful pieces: Vintage dishes, heirloom boards, or family cookware help make your holiday kitchen feel personal and collected.
A Simple and Festive Christmas Cocoa Bar
Just off the kitchen, I put together a small hot cocoa bar on one of my favorite vintage dressers. It is such an easy way to add a little holiday charm, and it makes the whole space feel warm and inviting. I started by hanging a mug rack filled with Santa mugs.

They add so much personality, and they always make me smile. Below the rack, I set out hot cocoa mix and a few of our favorite toppings. A vintage Santa mug filled with gold spoons sits nearby along with a tiny potted tree for a bit of greenery.

To finish the look, I added a sprig of garland, a strand of twinkle lights, and a sign in a chippy white wood frame with a vintage print of Santa in his sleigh.

It ties everything together without taking up too much space. If you want to create your own cocoa bar, you can find my free printable cocoa bar labels linked here.
