Beautiful Summer Centerpiece with Red Geraniums
Summer’s flying by, can you believe the 4th of July is just around the corner?
To celebrate the season in style, I’m sharing a super quick and easy patriotic centerpiece idea you can put together in 5 minutes!
And I do mean simple!
If you don’t have time to tackle a DIY or don’t feel like being crafty, then this post is one that I know you will enjoy.
All you need are some red geraniums and a few American flags to put together this simple 4th of July table decor.
Tools and Supplies Needed to Make a Summer Centerpiece with Red Geraniums
- Wood Crate or another planter box (You can find a similar one HERE)
- Red geraniums
- Disposable pie tin or plant saucer
- Small American flags
How To Make a 4th of July Centerpiece with Red Geraniums
Step 1: Find a Wood Crate or Planter Box
It is the obvious first step, but I want to share a bit about it, and here’s why.
When it comes to your home, I am a firm believer that you should do what YOU love.
Curating a comfortable and cozy home that makes your heart happy is more important than any trend.
For me, that’s finding creative ways to blend new decor with one-of-a-kind vintage pieces like this wood crate.
Several years ago, I found it tucked away in an old run-down outbuilding on my grandparent’s farm.
Since it holds extra sentimental value, I knew it would be the perfect piece to use for this patriotic centerpiece.
But you don’t need something old (or even a wood crate) to make a simple centerpiece like this for your Fourth of July celebration.
If you love the look of the old crate but don’t have one this set of weathered wood boxes is a good alternative.
If not, anything that can hold a potted plant will work.
Just get creative!
Shop your home for things that you may already have on hand.
You might be surprised at what you find!
Step 2: ” Pot” Your Red Geraniums
Once you have decided on a planter for your centerpiece, take some quick measurements.
This will help make sure you don’t pick out a pot of red geraniums that are too large or too small for your centerpiece.
In the summer, I love to use patriotic touches to style our home, so these red geraniums tie in perfectly with the rest of my dining room decor.
And this centerpiece complements the DIY patriotic red, white, and blue door basket hanging on our front door.
For a shortcut, simply keep the red geraniums in their existing plastic pot.
This saves time and allows you to easily remove them later to create another centerpiece.
If you plan to display your patriotic centerpiece inside, you’ll want to protect your furniture from water.
To prevent water marks and stains, place a plant saucer underneath your potted geranium.
If you’re in a pinch, you can also use a disposable pie tie, as I did here.
They are cheap, easy to find, and help to keep water from seeping through the bottom of the pot and onto the table.
Then “pot” your red geraniums in your crate, and just like that you have a simple and beautiful centerpiece for the 4th of July that will last you all summer long!
Step 3: Add Some American Flags
These mini American flags are an easy way to give your centerpiece an extra patriotic touch.
Just tuck a few in between the blooms of your red geraniums and you’re done!
They are so affordable, and I love to use them to decorate around our home in the summertime.
While this centerpiece is designed for a 4th of July celebration, it would be perfect for a Memorial Day picnic or any summer gathering.
And, for those living outside the US, the flags can be easily swapped out to personalize this patriotic centerpiece for your own country’s celebration.
(I see you my Canadian, Australian, and UK friends!)

And that’s it!
I hope you enjoyed this quick and easy summer centerpiece.
Red geraniums bring a vibrant pop of color to any table, and with a little watering and occasional pinching to encourage new growth, your centerpiece will continue blooming all summer long.
