Patriotic Decor: How to Find Inspiration for Your 4th of July Table

When I’m styling a festive table, I always love to find a special piece to inspire the whole look.

Inspiration can come from anywhere, like a pretty picture in a magazine, a gorgeous piece of fabric, or in the case of this table decor, even some July 4th-inspired dishes.

4th of July place setting created with patriotic decor including a round wicker charger, red and white striped napkins, blue transferware plates, and white dishes

I knew I wanted to use some blue plates for my patriotic table setting, but I didn’t want dishes with the usual stars and stripes theme.

And I didn’t want to spend a fortune on seasonal dishes that I would only use once or twice a year.

Luckily, while browsing the aisles at the thrift store, I stumbled upon these gorgeous blue vintage transferware plates.

They were perfect!

And for less than $10, I was sold.

They were exactly the decor inspiration I needed to get started on a festive patriotic tablescape.

Patriotic Decor Essentials: Setting A Red, White, and Blue Table

To set my table, I combined a mix of materials and textures to create layers.

Patriotic 4th of July tablescape styled on the dining room table with red lanterns, american flags, and a rustic tray filled with a bouquet of red white, and blue flowers

To create a layered look that complemented the patriotic theme, I used a mix of linens in shades of red, white, and blue.

Striped placemats provided a classic base, while red and white ticking stripe napkins and chambray napkins added a touch of pattern and extra pops of color.

My favorite round woven twig chargers add another layer of texture.

For the dinnerware, I opted for my everyday cream stoneware plates and bowls.

They’re simple, but the edges have a pretty design that reminds me of old-fashioned lace.

And, they pair perfectly with my blue patterned plates I found at the thrift store.

For the glassware, I used another thrift store find.

The glasses are a bit beat up, but I fell in love with the pattern.

I absolutely couldn’t pass them up!

I paired the clear glasses with some blue ball jars.

And I found some patriotic red and white striped straws in our pantry to add a bit of fun to the table decor.

To finish the table, I added some mini glass dessert cups filled with fresh cherries.

The dessert cups come in handy for serving classic fruit salad.

Or, if you have a sweet tooth, a scoop of one of my personal favorites… no-bake summer berry trifle. Yum!

4th of July Table Decorations: How to Create a DIY Floral Centerpiece

To create some festive and patriotic 4th of July decor, I styled a DIY floral arrangement using a mix of red, white, and blue flowers.

Patriotic 4th of July centerpiece with red, white, and blue fresh flowers and small American flags arranged in a vintage soup tureen

For my Fourth of July centerpiece, I chose three of my favorites: white peonies, blue hydrangeas, and red roses.

Instead of a regular vase, I used an old soup tureen to display the flowers.

I love the vintage feeling it adds to the festive bouquet, and the creamy ivory color of the stoneware coordinates with the vibrant red and blue colors of the flowers.

Then I tucked a few small American flags playfully in the flowers for an added touch of patriotic decor and to tie the whole centerpiece together.

For a touch of rustic charm, I used a barnwood tray as the base for my 4th of July centerpiece.

It’s a functional choice too, allowing me to easily remove the flowers when it’s time to serve dinner.
