Where To Get Inspiration For Your Patriotic 4th of July Table
The first thing I do when styling a tablescape is to find an anchor piece. To find what inspires me.
Inspiration can come from anywhere. From an image in a magazine, from a piece of fabric, or in the case of this month’s patriotic 4th of July tablescape, from some dishes!
I knew I wanted to use some blue plates for my red, white, and blue table. But I didn’t want anything with an obvious stars or stripes theme. And I didn’t want to spend a fortune on seasonal dishes that would only be used once or twice a year.
So imagine my excitement when I spotted these beautiful, blue vintage transferware plates while strolling the aisles of the thrift store.
I had found the inspiration for my table!
And for less than $10, I was SOLD.
How To Create A 4th of July Centerpiece With Flowers
Next, I turned my attention to the centerpiece. To create a vintage-inspired patriotic 4th of July arrangement, I used a mix of red, white, and blue flowers (of course!)
I chose three of my favorite flowers. White peonies, blue hydrangeas, and red roses. Or what appear to be some kind of roses. I’m actually not sure what they are, but they are pretty!
I used a vintage soup tureen to display the flowers. It’s a little unexpected, but I think it makes the perfect vase. The creamy ivory color of the stoneware also provides a good balance with the vibrant red and blue colors of the flowers.
After I arranged the flowers in the tureen, I added a few small flags to give the bouquet a star-spangled finishing touch, and that’s it!
A quick and easy 4th of July flower arrangement in just a matter of a few minutes.
To finish the centerpiece, I used a barn wood tray to display the soup tureen and flowers. Then I added a few other thrift store finds, including some mini red lanterns.
How To Set A Red, White, And Blue Table
To set my table, I combined a mix of materials and textures to create layers.
In keeping with the patriotic theme, I used a few different linens in coordinating shades of red, white, and blue, like these striped placemats.
To include a bit more pattern and color I layered in some red and white ticking stripe and some chambray napkins.
On top of the placemats, I added my favorite woven chargers. They are such a versatile piece and a staple that I use in many of my tablescape designs.
I set the table with my everyday stoneware dishes. I love how the rims of the plates and bowls have a delicate design that looks like vintage lace. Simple, yet classy. And they perfectly complement my thrifted blue transferware plates.
For the glassware, I used another thrift store find. The glasses are a bit beat up, but I fell in love with the pattern and couldn’t pass them up.
I paired the clear glasses with some blue ball jars and patriotic red and white striped straws. Because what fun is it to drink from a ball glass without a straw?
To finish the table, I added some mini dessert cups filled with cherries.
The dessert cups also come in handy for serving some classic fruit salad, or my favorite, a summer berry trifle. Yum!
